What do you think of the situation concerning Jim and Tammy Bakker?
It is all pretty boring. I'm tired of hearing
about it. It was going to happen sooner or
later.'
— Mike Davisson, senior, history
7 think it is funny because someone who is
supposed to be a superior is caught doing
something bad. ’
— Chuck Thom, sophomore,
accounting/economics
7 don't think Jim tiakker was treated fairly. . ..
The press should not bring up what Jim Hakker
did seven years ago. In the bible, if the Lord
can forgive then so should Jerry Fawell. ’
— Kennedy Dixon, junior, leisure studies
7 think it is about time it was revealed that
there was a lot of stuff going around, and the
churches have been abusing their power for
quite a long time — not just Christian
churches.
— Camille Elliott, sophomore, undeclared.
‘It is tough to see the campus crusaders of the
Christian church working hard hard and living
poor lives. Then? are boisterous bastards at the
top spending all the crusaders work for.'
— Barry Sherwood, sophomore,
bio-chemistry
7 think it is funny and the whole PTL is
ridiculous. I did not take time to read up on the
situation and it is just another scandal that
A m erica ns have to deal with.’
— Jenny Martinez, sophomore, business

Libraries will add hours
for finals study sessions
By Carolyn l.amberson
Of the Kmerald
Students have the opportuni
ty to study later at three Univer
sity libraries during dead and
finals weeks beginning
Wednesday.
The Main. Science, and Ar
chitecture and Allied Arts
libraries will close at 2 a.m.
rather than 11 p in. through
Wednesday of finals week
The library will employ
skeleton crews at the three
libraries and also will be taking
attendance counts to monitor
student useage. said Pat Wand,
assistant University librarian for
public services.
‘We want to help
those who have to
study into the late
hours of the
evening. ’
— Pat Wand
The idea originally was
brought up at a Student Senate
meeting during winter term,
said Sylvia Shannon, a former
student senator, as part of the
senate's objective in helping
students.
In January she went to the
library administration to
measure its support and to get a
cost estimate for keeping the
libraries open three hours
longer for the eight-day period
Shannon then went in search of
financing from various Univer
sity administration offices.
Action on the idea stagnated
for two months. Shannon said.
In that time, tht; senate spon
sored Ballot Measure 3 in the
April ASUO elections. The
measure sought student support
for keeping the library open
longer and passed 2.54B-104.
After the elections. Shannon
took the election results and the
backing of the senate to Univer
sity Provost Richard Hill to re
quest $4,600 in funding for the
project, she said.
According to Shannon, Hill
said he was interested in pursu
ing the matter and granted the
funding.
If the library administration
determines the extension is suc
cessful. it will be continued in
the future. Wand said. She add
ed there was no opposition to
the plan from library
employees.
"Everyone saw this as an op
portunity to provide services to
students." she said. "We have
surveyed the regular student
assistant staff and have been
able to find enough people to
cover.” Wand added,
have to study that late into the
evening," she said.
In the past the library has
received requests to remain
open, but the support shown
during the ASUO elections
helped the University ad
ministration finalize the deci
sion, Wand added.
Shannon said her motivation
for pursuing the plan was very
simple: it would be nicer to
have the libraries open for stu
dent use.
"The idea (when raised in the
senate) sparked my interest.”
she said. "I wanted to pursue it.
When 1 got the library ad
ministration's support. I
wanted to pursue it further.”
