Looking for a Valentine’s Day gift that is exciting and
different, one that is creative and beats the dullness of
traditional candy and flowers? The Fifth Street Public
Market is the place to look for gifts extraordinaire.
The Paper Traders Annex, located at the top of the
market, has a ceramic Betty Boop candle that sells for
$28. It has everything for the perfect Valentine's Day
party including reusable ice cubes in the shapes of pink
and red hearts and heart-topped cocktail stirrers.

Thunderbird model that sells for $44. And for holiday
fashion, the shop sells jumpsuits by Paris Blues in pink
and red. Sue Ryan, one of the store’s buyers, said. “YVe
strive for fun and look for the unusual.”
If the way to your sweetie’s heart is through his or her
stomach. The Marketplace Gourmet has a variety of
valentine kitchen accessories. An added touch to any
drink are heart-shaped ice cubes, made from heart
shaped ice trays, available for $2.75. There is an apron
with a teddy bear and hearts that matches kitchen
towels and potholders.
Mugs are also a popular gift item as well as heart
decorated white plastic cups. The Gourmet also has a
teapot with a cream pitcher and sugar bowl. All are red
with white hearts and are sold separately.
If the way to your sweetie’s heart is
through his or her stomach, The
Marketplace Gourmet has a variety
of valentine kitchen accessories.
For the scholar. Marketplace Bookstore sells a variety
of Valentine’s Day books. Some of the more interesting
titles are “Never Make Love in a Suit of Armor” by
Michael Green and “Love Strokes: Handwriting
Analysis for Love. Sex and Compatibility” by Harriet
Surovell. There is also a book called “Letters From the
Heart: An Alphabet of Affection." Each letter of the
alphabet has an affectionate word beginning with that
letter.
Deviating a little bit from the norm of traditional
flowers, the Fifth Street Greenery has mugs with
cutaway hearts going through the mug and filled with
roses, daisies and a heart ornament, selling for $12.95.
The shop also sells tall heart-shaped vases that say “I
Love You Mom."
Do you make your valentine’s heart soar? Kites and
Other Delights is the answer. Owner Lauri Seubert sells
heart kites for $12, but she says the big sellers this year
have been windsocks in the shape of flowers or “the
flower that never dies.”
Paper Traders also has some unique gifts. For the pas
sionate couple, there is edible underwear for both men
and women. On the lighter side. Paper Traders sells
valentine messages in a box and pink champagne bub
ble bath with real California champagne in it.
