McArthur Court Thursday
night.
The Ducks played an ag

minutes of basketball to trounce
the visiting University of
Washington Huskies, 77-67.
and halt a treacherous three
game losing streak.
Oregon extended its string of
victories in Mac Court this
season to six straight and im
proved to 3-5 in Pacific-10 Con
ference play (9-8 overall).
“We know we can win at
home because our fans are
always behind us." said senior
captain Kenny Sprague. “We
just have a lot more confidence
when we're at home.”
The Ducks showed that and
more against the Huskies after
suffering three disappointing
defeats on the road last week,
all of which they had oppor
tunities to win.
Oregon started the game a lit
tle sluggish before exploding
near the end of the first half to
eventually take a 34-29 lead into
the locker room at halftime.
The Ducks found themselves
down 20-12 (Washington’s big
gest lead) after almost 10
minutes of action when the

surge began. Rick Osborn hit a
jumper from the baseline, Keith
Balderston scored from short
range and David Girley canned
an 18-footer to bring Oregon
within two, 20-18.
Washington converted a pair
of freethrow's to go up by four,
but Balderston’s three-point
play pulled the Ducks within
one, 22-21.
The Huskies pushed their
lead back up to four again at the
2:49 mark with center Chris
Welps’ two free throws, the last
points the visitors put on the
board in the first half.
Oregon stormed out to take a
two-point lead, 31-29, with the
hot hand of Sprague, who
scored six straight points for the
Ducks. Balderston then capped
off an exciting finale to the first
half with a three-pointer from
the baseline.
The Ducks maintained their
momentum in the opening
minutes of the second half,
scoring the first seven points.
The two teams then exchanged
buckets before Oregon captured
its largest lead of the night,
48-32, when Girley hit a three
point shot.
