School of Community Service
and Public Affairs in 1978.
Hill became acting vice presi
dent for academic affairs and
provost in 1980, only to be ap
pointed to both positions in
1981.
Olum’s first encounter with
Hill was in 1976, when Olum
first came to the University as a
candidate for the position of
provost and vice president for
academic affairs.

“Research, be it university or
commercial, suffers from lack of
a critical discussion; our open
park would attract just those
companies that appreciate that
aspect of science.” he said.
In addition, Stahl said, those
participating in classified
research are subjected to
government clearance, which
involves an FBI investigation of
the political beliefs of par
ticipants, their families and
associates.
And it is a crime for a partici
pant in classified research to
share findings with a student or
colleague, he said, adding that
both the teller and the listener
can be punished.
If the senate passes the mo
tion with more than a two
thirds majority, its opinion will
he forwarded to the State Board
of Higher Education, which will
make the final decision.
If that happens, the State
Board will demand an explana
tion, and there won’t he a good
one to give. Glum said. He add
ed that very little classified
research is carried out at any
research park.
In addition, the possibility of
classified research being con
ducted at the park undetected
for long is slim, he said.
“It is unthinkable that germ
biological research would be
done on our little research
park,” he said.
