“You know it was a physical
game. I’m going to have a few
bruises tomorrow.” she
laughed.
Kim Giguiere. a 6-foot
freshman forward from Auburn,
Calif., logged 14 quality
minutes resulting in eight
points and five rebounds.
Heiny was quick to point out
the importance of this win
before the team heads to Los
Angeles for weekend games
against the University of
Southern California (USC) and
University of California at Los
Angeles (UCLA), but was not
ready to dish out complete
praise for his team’s
performance.
“Overall. I thought we were
very sloppy,” Heiny said. “We
weren’t very sharp mentally,
hut we did what we had to do to
win.”
The Ducks did what it took to
win. right from the start. They
slapped a full-court press on the
Wildcats after the opening tip,
and Arizona could not find the
bottom of the bucket until 3:59
of the game clock had expired.
Three lay-ins by center Gabi
Neumann — who had 20 points
and six rebounds in just 23
minutes — helped the Ducks to
a 12-0 lead. Oregon led by as
many as 23 (78-55), and Arizona
got no closer than six points.
36-30, just before the end of the
first half.

In that sequence, the Ducks’
defense sputtered for a short
while before they could regroup
during halftime. “It just came
down to defensive intensity and
execution on the offense,”
Heiny said.
At the beginning of the se
cond half. I^nderholm. who
was a perfect 10 for 10 in free
throws and finished with 20
points, got a steal arid two driv
ing lay-ins to put the Ducks up
44-30. Then Glidden got a steal
after a scramble directly in front
of the Arizona bench, which
was zapped for two technical
fouls for its protest. Landerholm
sunk the two foul shots and the
Ducks were back in full control,
46-30.
