With under a minute to go in
he women's basketball contest
between Oregon and the
University of Arizona at McAr
thur Court Monday night.
Wildcat coach Wendy Larry had
seen enough of a sloppy, foul
ridden game and emphasized
the point by waving tin; tradi
lional white towel for
surrender.
"I figured out which team
was prepared to win tonight,
and they were certainly the bet
ter team.” conceded I.arry.
As ugly as it was. the Ducks
will take this one — an 83-63
blowout for their eighth straight
win. The victory keeps the
Ducks neck-and-neck with the
University of Washington atop
the Pacific 10 conference stan
dings with a 3-0 mark (9-2
overall).
In a game that saw 49 tur
novers, 38 personal fouls, three
Arizona technicals and one
black eye (belonging to
Oregon's Lauri Landerholm).
Oregon coach Elwin Heiny got
his usual production from his
starters and some key minutes
from a few reserves.
Kris (Hidden, a 0-foot-3 junior
forward, came off the bench to
tally 14 points and a game-high
nine rebounds in what proved
to be a very physical battle
underneath the basket. "We
were just posting up a lot. and
the forwards saw us really
well." (Hidden said.
