In these performances, which are often degree recitals, the student performs selections of music he or she chooses, for a wide spectrum of performance showing musical ability. In addition to student perfor mances. each yeat a faculty ar tist series of concerts is given, showing the diverse abilities of the faculty on all instruments. The Oregon String Quartet, a leading ensemble in the Nor thwest composed of faculty, will perform a concert Jan. 20 in Beall Hall. The continuing faculty artist series includes a performance by the Banchetto Musicale. Feb. 1; the Oregon Brass Quintet, Feb. 8; and Dean Kramer on piano, Feb. 12. “Artists on the faculty are among the finest performers in the country. We need to recognize this resource within our own community,” Stone said. For example, various members of the faculty have performed with groups such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Sym phony of New York, the Oregon Mozart F’layers and the Metropolitan Opera Touring Company. "We have a highly respected performance faculty,” Martin said. "The faculty continues to be involved creatively. They all do music and do it well." Dobroski said. Guest performances in Ueall Hall include a chamber music concert series of internationally renowned ensembles, which is held each year.
