Seattle-Pacific struck first when it converted two free throws after a Meyer foul, the first of a fiasco of fouls that would give Oregon fits throughout the half and most of the game. The two teams exchanged the lead four times in the opening six minutes before the Ducks finally established control. With the score even at 11-11, Greg Senior hit a turnaround jumper. David Girley canned a three-pointer and Keith Balderston connected on a 17-foot jumper as Oregon took the lead for good. 18-11. Seattle-Pacific chipped away at the margin, but the Ducks held on to take a 36-31 advan tage into the locker room at the half. The Falcons took advantage of 13 Oregon first-half fouls and made 16 of 19 from the charity stripe to keep them in the game.
