Sports Wrestlers place two in Vegas Oregon’s Shon Lewis and Chuck Kearney placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 37-team l.as Vegas Invitational wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday at the Showboat Hotel. Lewis and Kearney were the only two Ducks to advance to the semifinals after Friday's first day of competition, as Oregon went into the chain pionship round in 14th place. The Ducks dropped to 15th after Saturday's action Lewis, wrestling in the 125-pound division, lost in the semifinals to Mark C.layton of the University of Wisconsin. ti-5. but came back to beat Pur due's Scott Hinkle by default in overtime and Uhris Hanson of Utah State University. 7-2. Kearney, a junior transfer at 177 pounds, lost in the semis to Steve Metzger, 7-0. in the final second of the match. He was called for stalling and then taken down at the buzzer. He lost to Wisconsin's Ralph I.iegel, 4-3. but bounced back in his fifth-place* match over Roy Yorkes of the University of Michigan. l>-5.
