By Capi Lynn

The Oregon volleyball team
embarks on its second straight
road trip when it travels to Los
Angeles, Calif., to face the
worst and the best team in the
Pacific-10 Conference this
weekend.
The Ducks. 9-4 in conference
play and 17-9 overall, confront
the USC Trojans, 0-13 in the
Pac-10 and 2-22 on the season,
tonight
Oregon is tied with Arizona
State University for third place
in the conference, while USC
comfortably holds down the
league cellar.
The Ducks easily downed the
Trojans 13-8. 15-12, 15-11
earlier this year in McArthur
Court and also defeated them in

the UCLA National Invitational
Volleyball Tournament 15-9.
15-5, 14-16. 15-4.
With the Ducks' two victories
over USC. they evened up the
all-time series between the
schools at 2-2.
Although the Troians,
described as "a bomb ready to
go off" by assistant coach Peg
Rees, have failed to win a con
ference match, the Ducks are
definitely not counting on a
sure win.
“(USC) had improved quite a
bit from the first time we played
them to the NIVT," Rees said.
The Trojans have been
plagued all season with in
juries. I^ast week. USC traveled
with only seven players (four of
them walk-ons) as they were
handed three Pac-10 defeats.
USC’s losing string has stret
ched to eight straight matches.
In its last eight conference mat
ches, the Trojans have been
outscored 24 games to two.
The Trojans have some con
solation in that setter Kathy
Rich, who has yet to play in
1986 because of a knee injury,
will probably see her first action
of the season this weekend.
"We're assuming that (the
Trojans') injury situation has
improved, and we expect them
to be even better," Rees said.
"There’s no way we can look
past them to UCLA.”
The Ducks will meet with
conference-leading UCLA
Saturday night, however, and
will attempt to record their first
ever win against the Bruins
(UCLA leads the all-time series
5-0).
The Bruins. 12-1 in the
Pac-10 and 24-7 overall, are
ranked sixth (NCAA) and ninth
(Tachikara/CVCA) in the nation
and are coming off three
straight conference victories
last week, which enabled them
to take a one-game lead over
