will be the large voter turnout
because all the "undecided*”
are running to Neil,”
Kulongowski said.
Tate thinks the outcome will
depend on absentee ballots,
which are reportedly at an all
time high.
“It ain't over until the fat lady
sings.” said Tate. "I think It’s
going to come down to some
final decisions in that voting
booth. 1 would not be at all
suprised to have it decided on
the basis of absentee ballots,
and I think the Republican party
is a whole lot better at getting
those absentee ballots."
Both reiterated previous
claims of their respective can
didates. Kulongowski relayed
Goldschmidt's wishes for "new
blood" and the "dispersal of
that ‘good ole crowd' ” in the
state government.
“We need a change to bring
new blood and new ideas into
state government. We need a
change in the attitude that this
state has had toward economic
development," Kulongowski
said.
Tate voiced Paulus' desire to
stick with current businesses
and existing resources —
agriculture, timber and tourism.
“Norma has learned to work
within the bureaucracy in
Salem,” Tate said.
“She knows how the state
government works and what its
priorities are."
Both also addressed the issue
of funding public education in
Oregon and supported in
creases, especially in faculty
salaries and higher education.
In addition, two other can
didates; Amy Hawes, a write-in
candidate running for U.S.
Senator, and Peter DeFazio,
running for the 4th District
representative seat, were
represented at the forum. Their
supporters briefly addressed the
respective candidates' par
ticular roles in the upcoming
election.

the shows increased about
$16,000 from the previous year,
said Jon Pincus, WOW Hall
coordinator.
“Our CPA tells us that we're
financially, when it comes to
balances, the best arts organiza
tion in the community.” Pincus
said.
But paying off the debt and
retaining the staff is only part of
the battle to keep the WOW Hall
open, Pincus said. Only con
tinuous fund raising will allow
the center to stay open.
Walter Slocum, a member of
the board of directors for the
Oregon Country Fair, said it is a
"foregone conclusion” that the
WOW Hall will receive some
money from the fair, which net
ted about $100,000 t^is sum
mer. The board is considering
giving the WOW Hall about
$9,000 and loaning it about
$6,000 to repay its bank loan, he
said.
“Even with the assistance, it
would not remove the need to
raise a significant amount of
money... to continue opera
tions.” Pincus said.
He added that on top of the
$25,000 needed now, about
$5,000 is owed to staff members
who have taken a pay cut since
May.
