source. Then you're going to
have those who are very bright
who are going to get some
scholarships from the private
sector Then you're going to
have the very rich who don't
have to worry about going to
college."
"I see a problem today for the
family that makes somewhere
between $30,000 a n d
$50,000 to put one or two
children through college."
Long said
"The program I've proposed
is designed to assist those peo
ple that fall into that missing
block of federal assistance, the
middle-income family." he
said.

existing Individual Retirement
Accounts legislation so that.
"Someone could take that IRA.
take the tax advantages that the
law now provides on their an
nual income tax report, and ac
cumulate the principal and in
terest for a maximum of $2,250
every year for a couple, up to
seven years.”
“Failure to withdraw in that
seven-year period would
automatically convert that sav
ings account into a retirement
account." long said
Long said his proposal has

tunate piece of legislation
because more than anything
else Gramm-Rudman is a reflec
tion upon a body of lawmakers
who do not have the courage to
do the job that they were elected
to do and that's to balance the
budget,” Long said.
“Lawmakers have the discre
tionary ability to make cuts and
make judicious cuts Failure of
them to make cuts means that
the debt will go into sequestra
tion. or across the board cuts,”

“Most of the people who say
'Well, we've got to cut military
spending.' quite frankly should
be behind Gramm-Rudman,”

deficit that has to be reduced
will come from the military,"
he said.

billion dollar budget the first
thing they’re going to want to
