    The Company Store to feature both traditional and unusual junk
Disposable culture will find anothor refuge for its
refuse today as a new thrift store opens in Springfield.
Not unlike other thrift stores, the Company Store. 225
Main St. will carry traditional items like furniture and
records, but will be distinctive in that most of its items
would have otherwise been buried at the town dump.
The store is owned and operated by Allied Arts, a
recycling business who operate a booth at the county
dump in Clenwood

The store will operate out of a building the size of a
small warehouse which has been converted from office
space.
Sommers says it 's often surprising the items people
throw out. Company repairman either fix or strip down
disposables like bicycles and televisions for their parts.
The Company Store, originally located in the
Whiteaker neighborhood, was begun by I .ana Economic
Development Council (I.HI1C) in the early '70s as a link
iii lli«> recycling process by recovering reusable and
repairable Hums and imiking thimi available to the
public at a nominal cost. Sommers says.
U.S. Representative |im Weaver will participate in
the grand upening ribbon-cutting. Weaver has called
Allied Arts a model small business. Sommers says.
At the opening ceremonies, which start at 2 p.m..
music will Ik? performed bv “Still Dreaming." a '5H
Chevy will be raffled off and students from Springfield
Middle School will read a tree dedication poem.
