Ducks try to corral
Cowboys Saturday
By Robert Collies
Of Uw KwrmM
The Oregon men’s basketball team will return to the friendly
confines of McArthur Court Saturday night to take on the Universl
| ty of Wyoming Cowboys.
! The homecoming comes Just in time for Oregon eoaCh Don
Monson and his beleagurad troops who |ust completed a three
game road swing and came home empty-handed.
Oregon left for the road swing to Texas Tech University, Nor
thern Arizona University, and Notre Dame University with a 2-0
record built on wins over University of the Pacific and Rutgers
University at McArthur Court, but now the Ducks sport a 2-3 record
after the tough road-trip.
As Oregon looks to get back on the winning track Saturday
night against the Cowboys the Ducks will be counting on
sophomore guard Anthony Taylor to continue his recent tear on the
offensive end of the court.
Taylor has been Oregon's only consistent performer offensive
ly so far this year as he is averaging 17.8 points per game and has
j been the leading scorer for the Ducks in every game except the
Pacific contest when a nagging foot problem caused by an infected
blister flared up.
Taylor's backcourt mate Rick Osborn has also been a key to
Oregon’s success.
Osborn has looked good in both Oregon wins this season, and
is averaging 12 points per game as the Ducks second leading scorer.
In the one game that the Ducks played badly, at Northern Arizona.
Osborn was shut down almost completely as he shot zero for seven
from the field and had only one point the entire evening.
Against the Cowboys the Ducks are facing a team that finished
15-14 a year ago and return three starters including 8-foot-5
sophomore sensation Fennis Dembo. who averaged 13.5 points and
17.9 rebounds per game last year.
Dembo has been bothered by an ankle injury and has averaged
only 5.7 points and 4 rebounds per game after six contests this
season.
Wyoming is paced this year by 6-foot-11 center Eric Leckner
who is averaging 16.7 points and 6 rebounds per game.
The game will be the first road game of the season for the
Cowboys after six contests at home
If the Ducks are to get back on the winning track they will have
no better time or place to do it than 7:35 pm. Saturday night at
McArthur Court.
The Oregon women'* basket
ball team is now offering a stu
dent season ticket package for
$8.
The Lady Ducks will open
their home season Saturday
night at 5 p.m. against Cal-Poly
Pomona as the first part of a
doubleheader. The Oregon
men's basketball team will take
on the University of Wyoming
in the second game of the
doubleheader at 7:35 p.m.
With the purchase of a
women's student season ticket,
the ticket holder will be entitled
to stay for the men's game
following. This doubleheader
will be the first of three such op
portunites upcoming.
1 he second doubleheader
will bn Dec. 21 when both the
Oregon men and women meet
Brigham Young University with
the womens game at 5 p.m.
followed by the men at 7:35
p.m.
The third doubleheader will
lie Jan, 31 when the women face
Fresno State University and the
men take on Stanford
University.
