Fact and fiction abound on the
subject of AIDS. We hear the "la
test - on television, in the papers,
and in everyday conversation. The cur
rent state of knowledge does, indeed,
change with each new discovery. But be
cau8e 80 many unknowns remain and this par
ticular disease's virulence, each new discovery
^ evokes sometimes conflicting emotional responses
in the listener.
Is this obsession with AIDS just a form of Ameri
germ-phobia? A product of media hype? Or is the en
tire population at risk? Should I avoid public contact
with strangers; maybe even with friends? Who should I be
lieve anyway?
