Creativity, originality and
lots of tradition will turn the
heads of judges for the
Homecoming Week Display
Contest, judging will take place
this Thursday between 4-6 p.m.
and one of the judges, jane
DeCldio. director of student
development, believes people
could have a lot of fun with the
theme. "Tales of Tradition."
'Til be looking for something
that captures the history of the
University," she said.
Something beyond the tradi
tional art form is her preference.
“It'd be fun if something was
done in Braille, or if there was a
video that’s signed for the hear
ing impaired."- she said. She
also will be looking for a
display showing ethnic
' diversity.
Other judges are Sam Baker,
assistant athletic director and
' Dona Barber, assistant alumni
association, director
Kristen Beerli, of the Student
University Relations Council,
which is sponsoring the event,
said judges will be looking for
displays that conform to the
theme, promote spirit and
display the University’s colors.
The only limitation is that no |
more than $50 can be spent on
tbe display.
“It can be a painting, papier
inache. a sign on a sheet or even
a three dimensional object —
any kind of decorating as long
as it shows spirit." Beerli said.
last year Delta (lamina sorori
ty won with a scene of the
fighting Ducks painted on a
sheet
Plaques, rather than prize
money, will be awarded for first
and second place.
“Last year the biggest prize
was $40. and between 80 guys
in a fraternity, that doesn't go
very far,” she said.
Although the contest is open
to dormitories, Cooperatives
and the Greek system, at the
deadline for entries, the fifteen
participants were all from
fraternities and sororities.
Those participating in the Homecoming Week Display Contest
will try to be as creative as students were in the past.
