Bookstore may open affiliate

The ■ University Bookstore may- open a
satellite store In the'KMlJ if the plans for the
project prove to 1st financially beneficial,.said

port system for the new EMU computing
.. center, .which is scheduled fo replace the'
building's east bowling lanes tfi.is year, was •
expressed Monday • at a meeting of . the,
bookstore's .board of directors, Williams said.
The bookstore board and the EMO-board
. of directors- now are discussing, whether to.
'open the satellite store., hilt’ have made".no

,• systems will make ordering* course books
easier and more efficient this year .:
." . The bookstore has worked at upgrading its
computer systems the last three years so that .it
: could improve its book ordering process and
work better with faculty and staff, Williams '
said. . •
... “Computers are opening a bunch of doors
for us and allowing us to become a better'.
resource for the school,” Williams said.
Williams also is looking at the possibility
of establishing a guaranteed book program at
the bookstore by winter term.
The program would allow students to get -
a temporary photocopied version of textbooks
if. pre-nrderpd .books do not arrive at the
bookstore before classes begin. The student
then can turn in the photocopied version for
the regular text when.it arrives, Williams said.
• But this will be done only for books .that
have been ordered by a professor before the
bookstore's dead jine, he added - . ,
• . “We think that this program Vvill be very
.beneficial for the.stud’enis’and .will put a little"
more pressure on the faculty to get their order
ing done.on time," Williams said-.- ■
The board also gave its approval for
Williams to'start negotiations with First in- •
torstate .Bank for a 'new automatic ■ teller
machine, which would be installed oh the east
side of the'biiildihg.along Kincaid Street.
•The bookstore currently has-an instant
teller, machine jonthe south - side of’ the
building that is .serviced by the U-Larie-0
Credit Union and acts as "a bank card exchange
for many campus-area banks: First interstate is
riot, included in this exchange:
