The stalwarts of the Oregon
' Daily Emerald, were faced with
a grueling assignment last
week: surveying the various
-'offerings of Ice cream
• manufacturers In Eugene, self*
styled ice cream capital of can*
tral Lane County.
Eugene's loe cream Industry
has a long tradition of ex*
Istenee to the community It
serves by the cone and dish
and tub and truokload. And the
Emerald staff romped through
a truokload of loe cream Sun
day night, In search of full
bellies and a better understan
ding of Eugene's Indigenous
Ice creams.
Samples of chocolate, vanilla
and strawberry loe cream were
gleaned from five local ven
dors: Baskln-Robblns (a
worldwide chain with five
Eugene-Sprlngfleld outlets),
Oantsy’s (ISOS E. 19th Ave.),
Marco’s Oelato D'ltall (2495
Hllyard St.), Sweet Surrender
(943 River Rd.) and
