Just a typical student in a
University springboard diving
class? Wrong. Meet Bob
Chilton, University graduate
and the Northwestern inter
collegiate springboard diving
champion of 1935.
Chilton is back at the Univer
sity after almost 50 years'
absence, taking P.E. classes.
“The confidence he has in
himself, you can tell he’s a man
of action,” says Uni l,oken
Dahle. University springboard
diving instructor and one of
Chilton's biggest fans. “He did
that back dive off the high
board. . . afterward he told me
he hadn't done one since
1955,” she says.
Chilton, originally from
Klamath Falls, returned to
Eugene in 1977 after retiring
from his Los Angeles-area
career as a test pilot and ad
ministrator for Rockwell Inter
national. Chilton went to
Rockwell, formerly North
American Aviation, in 1940,
and began testing planes for the
U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941.

Rossignol. Events include track
skiing, telemark technique, pic
nic tours and marathon racing.
Daily discounts will be

will be the Cadcade Crest Ski
Marathon March 10 beginning
at 9 a.m. at the Nordic Sports
Center.

Country Ski Tour March 10. It
will be a how-to tour day with
experienced trail guide
teaching: trail breaking, stream
crossing, how to get up and
down hills, pacing and more.
Cost is based on a sliding scale

ings Ski Weekend March 22-24.
