Hittin ’ the slopes at Mt. Bachelor
It starts at 9,000 feet and drops 3,100
feet.
The longest downhill run to be found
in Oregon is at Mt. Bachelor and is made
possible by the newly-installed Summit
Chairlift. The chair runs up the north
face of the mountain and offers miles of
downhill slopes of infinite variety from
packed, easy trails to powdered, steep
paths under the trees.
The south face, as reached by the Sum
mit Chair, offers 1.5 miles of open,
sweeping snowfields above the
timberline. The south face is known for
wilderness skiing with near verticle, jag
ged pinnacles and uninterupted
downhill. A packed snowcat trail makes
access to the lodge possible from any
downhill route on the mountain.
A Central Oregon Nordic adventure
begins at the new Nordic Center "Log
Cabin," near the north row in the main
parking lot. Terrain to challenge
everyone is included within the resort
area and touring trails go beyond into the
Three Sisters Wilderness area.

Mt. Bachelor offers 32 kilometers of
machine tracked trails. There are seven
loop trails from one to nine kilometers.
Free maps are available at all lodges.
Several late spring and summer pro
grams and camp activities will be
available later this season. The snow
pack stays until the end of June for cross
country skiing and the Summit Lift of
fers telemarking through August.
Mt. Bachelor race department offers
programs for all types of racers, novice
through expert, including the recrea
tional skier who wants to improve skills
and experience competitive skiing. The
coin-op race course, an electrically tim
ed course, is set up under the Yellow
Chair. Tokens can be bought at either the
Race Office in the main lodge or the top
of the coin-op course.
Mt, Bachelor ski lift hours are from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. all week. Weekend tickets
are $18 all day and evening tickets are
$14 for adults.
