Bellisimo has high hopes for keglers

Although not well-known or
publicized, the men’s and
women’s varsity bowling teams
are looking to have successful
club sport seasons under head
coach Lou Bellisimo and player
coach Kendra Hensley.
’They have the potential to
become one .of the greatest
teams I've ever coached,’ boasts
Bellisimo of his men’s team.
‘However, at this point, they
have a long way to go.'
Bellisimo has returned to the
helm of the men’s team this year
to coach on a volunteer basis.
He had previously coached the
Duck bowling team from 1950
to 1972, before moving to Lane
Community College, where he
taught for 12 years.
One of the men’s teams’ at
tributes this year will clearly be
inexperience, as Bellisimo has
welcomed all newcomers, aside
from Mark Prewitt, who com

peted on the varsity team last
year. Twelve men are presently
practicing with the team,
although only six members
compete in the matches.
Lou Bellisimo
According to Bellisimo, ac*
ting team captain Bill Homans,
Novert Vogele and Don Kelley
are the top three bowlers on the
squad." Kelley bowled the
Ducks' high game with a pinfall
of 183 when they hosted Oregon
State Oct. 25. OSlJ's Dan Orden
tallied the highest game in this
season opener with 190, just
ahead of Kelley.
Kelley scored the highest
three game series of the match
with a pinfall of 491, but
despite his performance, the
Beavers won 12-9, with a total
pinfall of 2305 to the Ducks'
2295.
“They need to practice under
pressure to become top
bowlers,” says Bellisimo of his
team. “J just teach them the fun
damentals. and leave the rest to
them.”

defeat Portland State 17-4.
The early season has proved
to more difficult for the
women's team thus far, as they
have lost two matches and won
one match by default. The
Ducks have lost to both Oregon
State and Portland CC, while
recording a win over Portland
State.
Hensley is acting as player
coach for the eight member
women’s team this year,
although Bellisimo helps out at
times.
Both teams compete in a con

Columbia, Mt. Hood, and
Portland Community Colleges,
OSU and Portland State. The
men and women will host Mt.
Hood CC Thursday. Home mat
ches are played at the EMU
