The parade will include an assortment of clowns, marching bands, a flash-dancing equestrian act, a cheetah and an elephant. The parade will proceed down High Street, stop at the mall and then return to the high school. A variety of artwork will be displayed throughout the downtown.area during the Celebration. Included will be the Artisan's Home Showcase with crafwdemonstra tions ranging from metal work to spinning to printing. One of Saturday's events will be the Pape Logging Competition at 12:30 p.m. at 8th Avenue and Willamette Street. Big Man Cliff Hughes from New Zealand and other well-known woodsmen will compete with novices in several competitions throughout the day. Antique logging equipment will be demonstrated. A new feature of the Celebration this year will be the the first annual "Fifth Avenue Jazz Festival" on Satur day. The section of Fifth Avenue between Oak and Pearl Streets will be closed to traffic, and tables and landscap ing will be brought in to create a festive atmosphere. Nine performances are scheduled, and KLCC-FM (89.7) will broadcast live from noon until 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. for local jazz guitarist Don Latarski’s performance. Following the jazz festival, KZEl-FM (91.9) will sponsor a rock'n'roll dance at Studio One in the Hult Center. Saturday night performers include Los Falcons, the Whitetones and the Cashiers with The Radar Angels. Admission is $3.96 and the music lasts until 2 a.m. Sunday's schedule Is divided into three shows spann ing from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.; admission is $2.96. Sunday morning Eugene athletes will have a choice between the eight-kilometer Performing Arts Run, and a one-kilometer "fun run," or a series of bicycle races. Both runs start near the Hilton at 10 a.m. The bicycle race takes off at 2nd Avenue and High Street with seven different races beginning at 12:30 p.m. For those who would rather eat than compete, Eugene Mayor Gus Keller will announce the winners oi the cake competition at noon. The competitors are Lane County retail and wholesale bakers. Each cake will be fudged for taste and innovative design in staying with the theme of "Life in Eugene." Food for thought will be available Sunday afternoon when speakers from the University offer insights into political campaigning. The hour-long sessions beginn ing at 1 p.m. in the Hilton Conference Center and Sousa Room will include discussions on the psychology of deception, women in politics, political cartoon analysis and past Oregon campaigns. Anyone needing transportation downtown can ride on a motorized reproduction of a San Francisco cable car, which will run Friday and Sunday from the Universi ty to Downtown.
