Player’s condition worse Brain swelling threatens injured Colorado tight end The condition of critically in jured University of Colorado football player Ed Reinhardt has taken a turn for the worse, a spokesman at Sacred Heart General Hospital said Wed nesday. “During the past 48 hours there has been increased swell ing in the brain,” Tom Lawry said. He said Reinhardt underwent surgery late Tuesday and the in creased swelling was confirmed by doctors. A monitor was in stalled during surgery to detect increased pressure in Reinhardt's skull. Continued on Page 14 “This does represent a set back in his recovery,” Lawry said, “although he is stable and remains in critical condition.” Reinhardt, a 19-year-old sophomore who was a standout tight end on the Colorado team, was injured when he was tackl ed by two University of Oregon football players in the fourth quarter of a game here Sept. 15. He walked to the sidelines but collapsed and has been in a coma since. Doctors have said Reinhardt probably would not have survived had it not been for an injection he received at the stadium to reduce brain swelling. Reinhardt underwent surgery shortly after his arrival at the hospital for removal of a blood clot. “The staff of the intensive care unit continues to closely monitor his condition,” Lawry said, “and the family requests prayers and support for Ed’s recovery.” Looking for a place to live?
