Sports Briefs The Oregon volleyball team whipped Portland State Univer sity, 24-22, 15-7, 15-5 to win the Brigham Young preview volleyball tournament Saturday in Provo, Utah. Oregon’s All-America can didate, Sue Harbour was named the tournament’s most valuable player. The Ducks reached the final after defeating Texas Tech, 15-3, 15-7, 17-15 in the semifinals. Oregon basketball coach Don Monson announced that Kofi Kyei, a 6-foot-10 member of Chanda’s national basketball team, has received an athletic scholarship for the upcoming season. Monson also announced the departure of three players from last year's basketball roster. Junior guard Donald Dutton will transfer to Delaware while sophomore Reggie Wallace and redshirt Mike Girardo will also not join the Dukcks. Fall prac tice begins on Oct. 15. Sam Baker was named as assistant athletic director after holding a similar position at Tennessee Tech last spring. Baker will handle the Duck Athletic Fund and oversee marketing functions. Sandy Walton was officially hired as business manager, a position she has occupied since February. Debra Weston has been hired as an assistant to the Oregon women’s basketball team for the upcoming season. University of Colorado tight end Ed Reinhardt remains in critical condition and a com atose state in Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene. Reinhardt was injured in the Ducks' 27-20 football victory over Colorado on Sept. 15. Former Oregon offensive lineman Gary Zimmerman has donated $50,000 for a fully en dowed scholarship to the university.
