Cadbury and Karen Hemm ingsen, a Eugene school-board member, traveled to El Salvador in August to work with local church relief programs. They assisted an ecumenical coali tion that provided food, clothing and building materials for those displaced by the war, "The government is just not doing anything for these folks and the churches are stepping in and trying to do something," Hemmingsen says. But the churches have difficulty in pro viding medical relief, she says. Medicine brought into the country by missionaries is often held up in customs until it goes bad, she says.
