Around the FM dial
Eugene's radio guide
A difficult thing to do when settling
into a new town, or even resettling into a
familiar one, is to get used to the selection
on the radio dial. It seems as if com
prehensive radio guides are impossible to
find, and it’s entirely too time consuming
to check out all the stations in detail.
We at The Friday Edition think its time a handy-dandy
station guide was created. We’ll concentrate on the FM dial
this time.
KLCC, 89.7, one of three Eugene public stations, is run
by the Lane Community College from 5 a.m. to 1 or 2 a.m.
daily. The music is usually jazz, but the focus is on public
affairs.
A member of the National Public Radio network, KLCC
features such established news programs as "Morning Edi
tion” (weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.); and "All Things Con
sidered” (6 p.m.to 7:30 p.m.).
KLCC features various musical programs, which explore
not only jazz, but electronic, reggae and folk music. Program
guides are available. The announcer’s phone number is
726-2212.
KWAX, 91.1, is the University station. KWAX plays
classical music as well as public service and fine arts pro
gramming. Also a member of the NPR network, it has "Morn
ing Edition" at 6 a.m. and "All Things Considered” at 5 p.m.
Program guides are available from the station. The phone
number is 686-4238 on weekdays and 686-4245 nights and
weekends.
KRVM, 91.9, is run by the Eugene School District. The
programming runs the musical gamut from rock and new
wave to jazz, big bands and dixie.
KRVM’s most popular program is Radio 80’s, a focus on
new music that features artists not commonly heard on com
mercial radio. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and
10:30 p.m. to midnight on weekdays; 4 to 6 p.m. Saturdays;
and 2 p.m. to midnight on Sundays,
KSND, 93.1, is a commercial 24-hour Top 40 station
which features Casey Kasem’s syndicated ‘American Top
40’ show Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon. The request line
number is 343-KSND.
KBMC, 94.5, is 24-hour Christian radio. Complete pro
gramming guides can be obtained from the station in person
or by calling 485-6262.
KZAM, 95.3, is an adult rock and progressive jazz sta
tion. Also broadcasting 24 hours a day, KZAM features “Get
Back,” a “progressive oldies” show, Sunday nights from 8
p.m. to 11 p.m. The studio line is 726-9595.
KZEL, 96.1, is album-oriented rock 24 hours a day.
Regular features include "Double-Shot Tuesdays” (two
numbers in a row all day) and Sunday night concerts at 10
p.m., as well as daily Concert Calendars, Rock Notes and
Sports Shorts. The request line number is 687-9610.
KUGN, 97.9, is contemporary country music with a
Country Music Countdown every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1
p.m. The request line is 343-0980.
KDUK, 104.7, is a 24-hour adult contemporary station
that boasts "more music and fewer interruptions,” as an
alternative to DJ-oriented rock. The phone number is
343-8888.
