A second University professor has received an Alexander von Humboldt prize for 1984-85, one of 70 awarded annually to U.S. scientists. Physics Prof. Marvin Girardeau, a member of the University's Theoretical Science Institute, was acknowledged by the West Ger man institute for his work on atomic collisions in chemical reactions. The awards have been granted since 1972 in appreciation for U.S. post-World War II reconstruction aid. Girardeau will study and conduct research at the Max Planck In stitute for Radiation Chemistry at Mulheim, West Germany, beginn ing in July. While there, he will apply methods of theoretical physics to problems of chemical interest, such as chemical reaction dynamics, magnetism and semiconductors.
