    Netters ace No. 7 Texas
A win over seventh-ranked
University of Texas Saturday
highlighted Oregon's appearance
in the UCLA Invitational volleyball
tournament this weekend.
The Ducks rallied behind a com
bined 22 kills from Sue Harbour
and Cathy Hill to hand Texas a
15-7, 5-15, 15-12 defeat
Oregon started the tournament
with a 15-8, 15-12 win over Pepper
dine University Friday night, but
lost a hard-fought decision to
12th-ranked Brigham Young
University, 15-7, 5-15, 13-15.
After upsetting Texas Saturday.
Oregon met UCLA for the right to
enter the tournament quarter
finals. The third-ranked Bruins
snuffed Oregon's hopes with a
15-2, 15-13 win.
Still, Duck coach Chris Voelz
was moved to call the win over
Texas "a great team victory."
The Invitational featured 12 of
the nation's top 20 teams.
With the two win, two-loss per
formance in Los Angeles, Oregon
is now 22-15 on the season.
More importantly though, the
Ducks are a fourth-place 5-2 in the
NorPac Conference. The top four
teams qualify for the league’s
post-season tournament. Oregon
is hanging onto the last spot
behind University of Pacific (7-0),
San lose State University (6-0) and
Oregon State (6-1).
The Ducks are one-halt game
ahead of 19th-ranked University of
California (4-2). The two teams
play in Berkeley, Calif., on Nov.
11.
Harbour received conference
plaudit last week, being named
NorPac Conference volleyball
player of the week atter she nailed
45 kills in Oregon wins over
University of San Francisco and
University of Santa Clara.
