W® at the Emerald are tired of
the blandness of the yearly race
for the Heisman trophy. After all,
who wants to vote for guys with
cardboard names like Steve
Young or Marcus Allen or even
Herschel Walker? We’ve decid
ed to push our own candidates
for the Heisman. Since visibility
is all-important in the Heisman
hunt, we have gone in search of
the most unique names from the
Pacific-10 Conference’s various
rosters.
At first, we were going to push
Roggy Pflug and Okeese
Wilcots as our top two can
didates, but we kept finding
such great names (Neon Ed
wards, Onno Zwaneveld, Wally
Wisner) that we decided to can
the Heisman hunt and put
together an All Pac-10 Name
Team. Our humble endeavors
follow.

At the rate Oregon is going,
head football coach Rich Brooks
should plead with the NCAA to
allow him to redshirt the entire
Oregon football team. The
Ducks have watched a 3-3 record
slip to 3-5 in the last two weeks,
thanks in large part to a recent
string of injuries that has hit
hardest at the offensive line and
the defensive secondary.
The injuries, when they occur
red, and whether the player in
jured will see action against
UCLA this Saturday in Autzen
Stadium:
Center Ryan Zinke: Injured
right knee against Washington
State and had to leave game.
Doubtful for UCLA.
Guard Steve Jenson: Return
ed from leg infection against
WSU, but twisted a knee and
suffered a bruised shoulder.
Questionable for UCLA.
Safety Jeff Williams: Broke
right forearm against
Washington. Out for the season.
Safety Doug Judge: Injured
left knee against Arizona. Out
for season.
Tackle Greg Schwab: Injured a
knee against Arizona and had
surgery last week. Out for the
season.
Guard Craig Kaylor. Injured a
shoulder in pre-season. Out for
year.
Guard, Gary Zimmerman:
Played with a strained right knee
against Washington State. Pro
bable for UCLA.
Quarterback Mike Jorgensen:
Broke little finger on left hand
against California. Injured
shoulder versus Washington.
Doubtful for UCLA.
Quarterback Mike Owens: Suf
fered a concussion against
Washington State. Probable for
UCLA.
Defensive End Dale Doming:
Slight concussion versus
Washington State. Probable for
UCLA.
Defensive End Steve Baack:
Slight knee injury against
Washington State. Probable for
UCLA.
