Notables
"Dracula," UT's season
opener begins Thurs., Oct.
27, at Robinson Theatre.
Set in the 19th century, the
1927 Deane and Balderston
version of Bram Stoker's
novel, "Dracula" will fur
nish an evening of horror,
mystery and romance.
Tickets are $5 for the
public, $3.25 for University
students, and $4 for other
students and seniors. The
play also runs Oct. 2B-29,
Oct. 31, and Nov. 3-5.
The Oregon Mozart Players
will present a concert Sat.,
Oct. 22, at the Soreng
Theater. The program in
cludes works by Boyce,
Vaughan, Bach, Williams
and Hayden. The perfor
mance is at 7:30; tickets are
$5.50.
"The Right Stuff," the film
based on Tom Wolfe's
best-selling 1979 astronaut
novel, is scheduled for na
tional release, Fri., Oct. 21.
Starring Barbara Hershey,
Scott Coleman, Dennis
Quaid and Sam Shepard
(pictured above as Chuck
Yeager,) the Warner Bros,
film is expecting as many
bucks as |ohn Glenn is
votes.
Taj Mahal, "a powerhouse
of folk and blues," will be
in the EMU Ballroom on
Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. Tickets
for the event, which is
sponsored by the Cultural
Forum, are $5.50 for
University students, $6.50
for general public in ad
vance; $6.50 for students
and $7.50 for general
public on the day of the
show. They're available at
the EMU main desk.
"Rickshaw Boy/' China's
entry for this year's
Academy Awards will kick
off the China Film Festival
at the Bijou. Showing on
Saturday and Sunday, Oct.
22 and 23, at 2 p.m., the
film is the first of five con
temporary mainland
movies brought to Eugene
from China. The remaining
four films, all of which
have never been released
in the U.S., will show at
the same time for the next
four weekends. Admission
is $2.50.
Jane Van Boskirk stars in
"Prodigal Daughters”
tonight, Oct. 21, at 7:30
p.m., in the Hult's Soreng
Theater. The play was writ
ten by Oregon playwright,
Dorothy Velasco. Tickets
are $5.50.
It's a party tonight at
W.O.W. Hall to celebrate
Earth River Records and
Tapes' second anniversary.
Four local bands, "The Bil
ly Boys," "Milkmen,"
"Hoodlums," and "The
Evolutionary Dance Band,"
will provide music. Admis
sion is free and all ages are
welcome.
A concert bv Kate Clinton, a well-known
feminist humorist, will be held in the
EMU Forum Sat., Oct. 22. Admission to
the event, which is sponsored by the Gay
and Lesbian Alliance (GALA), is $5. Clin
ton, who recently released an album of
live performances called "Making Light,"
considers herself a "fumerist" — that's
feminine and humorist. She maintains that
unlike men's humor, which is based on
the maintenance of the status quo,
feminist humor focuses on a vision of
change. "There is nothing new under the
sons. They are always dead serious," she
jokes. Clinton will also facilitate a
workshop on "Women anti Humor," Sun
day at 2 p.m. in the EMU Forum.
