Fearsome twosome paces
resurgent Oregon defense

Football is a game where a team can often make
its own breaks. And in its three victories this season,
Oregon has made its own breaks.
In the Ducks' three wins, the defense has made
the big breaks to allow the offense to put points on
the scoreboard. After a start bordering on disaster,
Oregon's defense has played like it owns opposing
offenses.
Two of the reasons for the defensive resurgence
are Dan Ralph and Lerry Wilson. Both have wreaked
havoc on opposing offenses.
The similarities between the two are endless.
Both are among team leaders in tackles, both have
been named Pac-10 defensive player of the week this
season, and b<Jth play with reckless abandon on the
football field.
For Ralph, a 6-4, 268-pound senior defensive
tackle from Boulder, Colo., football comes naturally.
His physical strength (his 450-pound bench press is
an Oregon record) enables him to do battle with any
offensive lineman.

Ralph, “the kind of guy a football team needs — so
meone up front who is agressive."
Ralph's agressiveness is beginning to pay off for
the Ducks. With his 12-tackle performance against
Arizona, Ralph was tabbed conference player of the
week, an accolade he wants to share.
"It's a real nice honor to get," Ralph says. "I real
ly didn't expect it. I would like to share it with the
defense because it took a great team effort to get
recognized."
Saturday against Arizona, Ralph was practically a
team by himself. He deflected four passes and had a
