Wheel-warning works Campus security officers expressed pleasure Thursday at the success of the new campus bike regulations, which they say are being obeyed by 75 percent of students. "People have been pretty cooperative" about adhering to the rules, according to Don Brooks, public safety associate director. The new rules prohibit riding in three especially crowded areas of campus, in cluding the EMU breezeway, the residence hall section on Agate Street between 13th and 15th avenues, and all pathways between Cerlinger Hall. Security officers have only been making verbal warnings to violators thus far, Brooks says, but they will "probably" start issuing written warnings Monday. Brooks says he's "not exactly sure” when they will begin issu ing fines for moving violations. "It takes them (students) a while to get used to" the rules, Brooks says, trying to ac count for the estimated one out of four students who have forgotten to dismount their bikes in off-limit areas.
