7 figured it would be OK'
Harol Koyama thought he could save himself
some time and hassles by driving his Porsche a little
closer to his dormitory room in Sheldon Hall.
"I figured it would be OK," he said later. "It is
new student week."
But a Eugene policeman wasn’t persuaded. He
fr
followed Koyama and gave him a $25 ticket for "driv
ing on the sidewalk."
Koyama intends to protest the ticket. "I’m not sure
it that is a sidewalk," he said.

Council meets tonight
The Eugene City Council will hear public testimony
tonight on two issues pertinent to students. The public is
invited to attend to testify or watch at 7:30 p.m.
First on the council's agenda is a hearing on bed-and
breakfast facilities, the personalized, homey rooms-for-rent
that are gaining popularity in Eugene, especially near
campus.
The city Planning Department is working through the
City Council to gain an amendment to Eugene's zoning or
dinance that would allow the cottage-like hostels in
residential zones, says Gary Chenkin of the planning
department.
The council also will hold a hearing on the rental struc
ture of the Soreng Theatre in the Hult Center for the Perfor
ming Arts.
The hearings will be held in the City Council
Chambers, 777 Pearl St.
