If you have a spaghetti dinner on your mind and a pittance in your pocket, Waremart offers you the lowest grocery prices. Photo by Dave French A sultan's spread... at pauper's prices By Guy Maynard Of the Emerald You've spent the day refiguring your schedule a dozen times, running from your adviser to an instructor whose class you have' to get into, drinking a Coke or two on top of the coffee that already has your stomach gurgling. As you and your roommates straggle off campus, the thought of having a nice relax ed dinner collides with the realization that the shelves of your new apartment are bare. It's time for a trip to the store. You want something easy but filling, nutritious but delicious. How about spaghetti with sauce, some French bread and a lettuce and tomato salad with Italian dressing? And maybe a bottle of red wine to take the edge off the day. A comparison of prices at five area stores reveals that the cost of the ingredients to make that meal for three hungry people varies greatly depending on where you dec ide to shop. It you take the short walk down 1 ith Avenue to Little's Market, the goods would cost you $7.79, but if you make the long ride to Waremart, 2101 W. 11th Ave., you could get them for $6.56. McKay's, 1960 Franklin Blvd., had the se cond lowest prices with a total bill of $6.70, followed by Tom's Market, I490 E. I9th Ave., at $7.38 and Safeway, 145 E. 18th Ave., at $7.65. The makings of this feast include a 12-ounce package of either Mission or Merlino's long spaghetti, a 15.5-ounce jar of Ragu spaghetti saute, a package of six Oroweat Francisco French rolls (half to be eaten with this meal), a l-pound head of let tuce, a pound of tomatoes, an 8-ounce jar of either Kraft or Wishbone Italian dressing (a fourth for this meal), and a 750 milliliter bot tle of either Riunite Rosato or Almaden Mountain Nectar. • •' ar* sSSfSsg Ifj-BScSSrstte, ;&«&=fc_; “r~“ pOU can Study in Ph i ^ PU 6f aPP^cations to leeai tenssbook - To learn more, call collect: (215) 567-4811.
