Campus' lesser known eateries There're some well-kept secret culinary nooks on campus, and they're only a short walk from the magnetic EMU eateries. Each is reasonable in price and most are more distinctive in ambiance. Still, this is no time to disregard the faithful EMU Food Van which parks itself like a good dog every morning at 9:30 in the Main Library's west driveway. It stays there all day until 2 p.m. serving coffee, tea, bagels, donuts and other deli and bakery snacks that the EMU Fishbowl also supplies. It's a wonderful resource for filling in the spots missed by other meals, but it’s one step down from the warm, hole-in the-wall atmosphere found upstairs at Lawrence Hall's Buzz Bar. Trapped in the sunny southeast corner of Lawrence's third floor — known as the Architecture Floor — this little coffee bar opens at 8:30 a.m. Not only can you buy a 30 cent cup of fresh brewed cof fee or 25 cent mug of tea if you bring your own cup (35 and 30 cents if use use one of theirs), but you can read magazines such as the New Yorker, meet with friends and perhaps hold a meeting if your numbers are low. The spot seats about 15 — if two or three use the wooden swing. Homemade pastries including — shortbread, banana bread and bagels — are on sale for 50 cents. For $1, the traditional bagel sandwich is available. The Buzz Bar is open until 4:30 Monday through Friday and welcomes all students, faculty and others on campus that are not necessarily affiliated with the Allied Arts and Architecture. Though a bottomless cup of 35 cent coffee is served from 8:30 a m. until 3 p.m. at the Faculty Club, this restaurant/meeting house has even more to offer than real cream and raw sugar. Housed in the yellow Victorian Collier House on the southeast corner of University Street and 13th Avenue, the club is com pletely open to the public for lunch, meetings and parties. Lunch is served from 11:30 a m. until 2 p.m., and the most expensive items on the menu are the Shrimp Salad and an Everything Sandwich, both of which cost $4.50. Most other meals, including soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers, cost between $2 and™ $3. Ice creams, melons, yogurt, and extra avocada are other specialties. The Faculty Club dining room seats about 100 people, has a non-smoking area, and sometimes — when the weather is fair — spills its seating out onto a spacious deck. Every month it hangs a different art show, something that its old-fashioned, rose carpeted rooms absorb elegantly. Aside from being available to university-related groups for meetings and receptions, the club will make up meat and cheese trays and provide special catering to outside groups. Without the distinction of the Collier House parlor piano or antique furniture, the indefatigable Housing Department provides one of the best food deals on campus. Three meals a day are available at Carson, Hamilton and University Inn dormitories to anyone who'd like to walk in and pay $2.75 for breakfast, $3.75 for lunch or $4.75 for dinner. The amount you^^ can pile on your plate is limitless, and vegetarians^ can always depend on one entree, a salad bar and fresh fruit. Breakfast is served from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30. Brunch and breakfast replace the three squares on Sunday. All dorm-dwellers have the cost of food figured into their contracts, but board plans are available to those who live off-campus. The cost, according to the Housing Department, works out to about $221 a month and is available on a term-payment basis. Fur ther information can be obtained by contacting the Housing Department.
