On exhibit I Ch'ing art at museum It can be called the museum that Oriental art built. In 1922, Gertrude Bass Warner contributed an extensive collec tion of Oriental art to the Universi ty. This gift inspired the building of the University's Museum of Art. And after 11 years, in 1933, the museum first opened its doors to visitors. According to Barbara Zentner, registrar and director of the Do cent program, the volunteer tour guides at the museum, Warner felt that the only way to achieve peace across the Pacific was through the mutual understan ding of each other's cultures. Since that time the museum has acquired international recognition with accreditation by the American Association of Museums.
