Housing chooses five students
for residence hall managers

The housing department has chosen five
students to fill residence hall complex student
manager positions during 1983-84.
Second-year law student Charles Sparks
was picked for the Walton complex post. He is
the son of Margaret McLean, 3132 S.E. Tolman
Portland.
Donna Kietzmann, the resident assistant
for Debusk Hall in 1982-83, was selected as the
Bean complex manager for 1983-84. The
business management senior is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kietzmann, 398
Eastland Place, S.E. Salem.
Sheri Donahoe will retain her position as
student manager of the Carson-Earl complex.
She is a senior majoring in psychology and
gerentology and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Derick Donahoe, 3220 Northwest Way,
Redmond.
David Westrick, currently a resident assis
tant at Carson Hall, was chosen as student
manager for the Hamilton complex. A senior
majoring in business, Westrick lives at 2207
Barclay, West Linn, Ore.
Ken Bergquist will continue as University
Inn manager. The third-year law student is the
son of Helen Bergquist, 3351 Chamberlain
Court, Walnut Creek, Calif.
Student managers are responsible for
assisting in the selection and training of resi
dent assistants for each hall and for planning
activities within their complex, according to
Marjory Ramey, acting housing director.
The complex directors receive room and
board and a salary. Their other duties include
advising the presidents’ councils and advisory
boards that have key self-governance roles in
their halls and working closely with the area
director — a housing department staff member
who supervises student employees and coor
dinates activities in each complex.
Student managers are selected for their
positions based on information and recommen
dations provided with their application, as well
as on their performance in a group-interaction
process, an interview and a final screening,
Ramey said.
’Rithmetic conference is slated

12th grades will be offered
Aug. 15-26 at the University.
The College of Education
and the Continuation Center
designed the conference in
response to a recent national
study that reported Scholastic
Aptitude Test math scores
dropped significantly from
1963 to 1983

seeks nominees for posts
The Bureau of Land Management is seeking nominations
for three positions on the Eugene District Advisory Council, ac
cording to District Manager Dwight Patton.
Appointments to advisory councils are on a staggered-term
basis. The terms of three current members of the eight-person
council will expire on December 31 of this year.
Nominations should represent one of three categories:
renewable resources, recreation or public at-large. They should
be sent to Patton at P.O Box 10226, Eugene, Ore., 97440, by Aug

category for which the person is being nominated.
