Campus-area crimes recently reported to
the Eugene Police included:
Paul Gossler, a Eugene resident who
reportedly has been following female Universi
ty students, faculty and staff members for near
ly three years was arrested Tuesday for
trespassing on campus.
Sgt. Rick Allison said police and University
officials sent Gossler a letter last week warning
him to stay off campus because he is not a stu
dent and has no business at the University.
A member of a West University business
group spotted Gossler on campus and reported
him to police Tuesday, Allison said. Gossler
was charged with trespassing and is scheduled
for arraignment in Lane County District Court
on May 9.
Allison said police have received 69 com
plaints from women who say Gossler has
followed them in the past three years. Accor
ding to some reports, Gossler often poses as a
solar engineer or a landscape architect, with
printed business cards, approaches the women
and tries to talk to them.
Two unidentified males were seen leaving
a Bean Complex dormitory last weekend after
they had apparently defecated in a shower
room, Allison said. Police are investigating the
incident and trying to identify the suspects.
A dormitory room was vandalized last
weekend, including being littered with fish
parts, cat food, calf liver, raw eggs and other
garbage, said Allison. Some carpet damage
was reported; police are investigating the
incident.
Roger William Wyatt, who was arrested on
campus earlier this month for carrying a con
cealed weapon, failed to appear for a scheduled
arraignment last week, Allison said. Police are
looking for the 33-year-old Eugene man, whose
bail was posted at $3,000.
A Canon camera was reported missing
from the Sigma Nu fraternity after a party at the
house on April 21. Allison said the camera was
valued at $400. No suspects had been charged.
Traveler’s checks worth $500 were
reportedly stolen from a foreign student in the
EMU cafeteria last Friday. Allison said police
believe the checks were taken while the stu
dent was wearing a shoulder bag.
Nearly $135 worth of bicycle parts were
reported stolen from a locked bicycle parked in
front of the library Monday, Allison said. Mis
sing parts included tires, handlebars and
handbrakes.
A delivery truck was reportedly vandalized
last Friday while it was parked in front of Allen
Hall, said Allison. The truck’s headlights were
apparently smashed. Damage was estimated at
$150.

Student fees bill passes committee
A bill giving students more control over in
cidental fees passed through the House Educa
tion Committee Thursday by a 6-1 vote.
The bill had previously gone through four
public hearings and three work sessions, ac
cording to committee administrator David
Gomberg.
The bill is closely modeled after the
University process, says Gomberg, so the
changes to the process the University currently
follows are not dramatic.
“It pats the University on the back," says
Gomberg, “but it doesn’t give it much benefit.”
Under the bill, the president of an institu
tion and the student government would have to
jointly submit the fee budget to the State Board
of Higher Education.
If no agreement could be reached by June
30 of any given year, then the recommendation
would go back to the previous year's budget
If the fee were to be increased more than 6
percent or decreased more than 10 percent, the
change would have to pass a referendum vote
of the students. The referendum vote would be
binding on the fee recommendation, said
Gomberg.
