Sonics sink Blazers
SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle
guard Gus Williams scored 10
points in the fourth quarter
Tuesday night as the Super
Sonics came from behind to
defeat the Portland Trail
Blazers, 106-101, in National
Basketball Association action.
The victory assured Seattle
the homecourt advantage in
next week’s first-round playoff
series. With the loss, Portland
dropped into a tie with Kansas
City for the fifth and sixth
playoff spots.
The Sonics, who have won
eight straight and 15 of their
past 17 games, took the lead
for good, 96-95, on Jack
Sikma’s field goal with 4:41 to
play. Williams turned a steal
into a lay-in and after a Blazer
miss, he added a 15-footer for
a 100-95 lead with 3:39 to go.

AW’s Tabb
hospitalized
PORTLAND (AP) - World
record-setting distance runner
Mary Decker Tabb was admit
ted to University Hospital here
Tuesday afternoon for evalua
tion of injuries she suffered in
a traffic accident Monday in
Eugene.
Hospital spokesman Chuck
Williams said Tabb was listed
in fair condition.
"She’s just uncomfortable
and has some minor complica
tions," Williams said.
"It is a precautionary
measure," said Dick Brown,
Tabb’s coach at Athletics
West in Eugene. "It is mainly
to get her settled and rested
and to let nature take its
course."
Tabb complained of neck
pain at the scene of the acci
dent and was taken by am
bulance to Sacred Heart
Hospital where she was
treated and released. Con
tinued neck pain and
headaches led to the decision
to go to the Portland hospital.
She was riding in an
automobile owned and driven
by John Gregorio, the national
promotion director for men's
track and field for the Nike
athletic shoe company. The
two were stopped, preparing
to make a turn, when they
were rear-ended by a milk
truck. The car was heavily
damaged.
