NIT berth
CORVALLIS (AP) - Oregon State’s
basketball team received a bid Sunday to
the National Invitation Tournament, and
coach Ralph Miller says the Beavers
have only themselves to blame for not
getting an NCAA invitation.
The Beavers, 18-10, will face Idaho,
20-8, on Wednesday in Corvallis.
"I think it’s always nice to be con
sidered for anything," Miller said of the
NIT invitation.
“Our players had voted to accept an
NIT bid if they were not included in the
NCAA," he said. "Certainly this was a
year of upsets so far as seedings (for the
NCAA). None of the tournaments worked
out very well.”
The Beavers lost to Stanford 88-75 on
Saturday in their last regular-season
game of Pac-10 Conference play. They
finished third in the league with a 12-6
record.
The NIT competition through the
quarterfinals will be held at various sites
throughout the country, with the four
semifinalists meeting at Madison Square
Garden in New York on March 28. The
finals will be held there March 30.
The Pac-10's other entry in the NIT,
Arizona State, will face Fullerton State,
21-6, at Tempe, Ariz., on Friday. The Sun
Devils are 17-12 this year.
