Women net two victories

Led by a 20-point effort from
forward Chris Metzger, the
Oregon women's basketball
squad sunk Cal-lrvine’s Ant
eaters 69-5 at Irvine Sunday
The win was the second in a
row for the Ducks who beat
Pepperdine 85-79 Friday night,
and allows Oregon to return
from a three game California
road swing with a 7-7 record
Metzger's 20 points tied a
career high for the sophomore
from Fremont, Calif . as she
helped the Ducks build an early
lead Oregon led 36-22 at the
half, and the Anteaters could
get no closer than 12 points in
the second half
The big lead allowed Oregon
coach Elwin Heiny to give
center Alison Lang a bit of a
breather. Lang saw only 24
minutes of action Sunday and
netted a season low of 10 points
to go along with seven
rebounds and five blocked
shots.
Metzger got scoring help from
senior forward Mary Ann
Stoican who hit six-of-nine field
goals in scoring 14 points
Nine Ducks found their way
into the scoring column, as
Oregon hit 47 percent of its field
goal attempts, while sinking on
ly 43 8 percent of its free throws.
Lang deserved a rest after she
came up with 31 points, 12
rebounds and nine blocked
shots in the Ducks' win over
Pepperdine Friday.
In that game, Oregon did what
it failed to do in a 79-71 loss at
San Diego State Thursday —
came through at the end of the
game The Ducks came up with
a 9-2 scoring spree in the final
four minutes of the game to earn
the victory
The Ducks led by as many as
15 points in the first half, but
Pepperdine was able to close
the gap to eight by intermission,
where the Ducks held a 42-34
lead
The Waves overtook the
Ducks with 4:07 to play in the
game. 77-76. But Helen Higgs
answered with two of her 16
points for Oregon, and the
Ducks led the rest of the way
