Portland accounting executive
serving University residency
With increasing opportunities
for graduates in the accounting
field, accounting and related
jobs are among the top three
professions of the 1980s, says
Sandra Suran, a Portland ac
counting executive
Suran is the partner-in-re
sidence this fall in the University
accounting department Her
first visit was Thursday; sub
sequent visits are set for Oct
28-29 and Nov 11-12
"The need for accountants
has sky-rocketed," Suran says
"Graduates in this field have
increasing opportunities.
Suran. a partner with Suran
and Co., is considered a leading
figure in the accounting field
She is a member and past
chairman of the Oregon State
Board of Accounting and serves
as liaison with the State Board
of Accountancy She is also
head of a task force studying
ways to reduce accounting
regulations for small business in
Oregon
While at the University, Suran
will focus on accounting needs
for privately-owned companies
rather than emphasizing public
ly-owned companies
She says “There has been a
focus regarding the financial
statements of publicly owned
companies Yet 99 percent of all
businesses are privately owned
and their users have completely
different needs in financial mat
ters ’’
Suran says users of the com
panies find their financial states
are not as meaningful and help
ing these privately owned bu
sinesses is important.

residence program aims to ac
