IFC contemplates zero-funding
program limits, new EMU hours
By Rich Burr

University programs should consider obtain
ing a broader base of funding, said Jeff Nudel
man. Incidental Fee Committee member, at the
Thursday night IFC meeting Nudelman noted that
despite the enrollment decline there has been an
increase in ASUO-funded programs
' I think a lot of our funding is getting out of
hand.” Nudelman said
Nudelman said he doesn't want to limit the
number of programs, but the number of funded
programs has grown from 65 to 86 in two years
"It's gotten to the point where 10 P E majors
form a Physical Education Students Union and we
feel obligated to fund it," he said
Nudelman said the committee should con
sider the benefit the University-community der
ives from each programs before funding it The
IFC should work at making ASUO-funded organ
izations stronger without relying on more in
cidental tee money, he said
"I. for one. don't feel we should raise in
cidental fees this year, Nudelman added
The IFC should also consider zero-funding
weak programs to "keep them from limping
along," he said
Nudelman's remarks were marked for further
discussion They do not represent the policies of
the IFC, IFC chairer Bart Hill said
In other business, the committee reversed a
decision made last week to take money from
unallocated reserves to keep the EMU open 114
hours extra during Dead Week The IFC unan
imously tabled the motion until the EMU adminis
tration submits a financial statement disclosing
whether the EMU can fund the extra hours
The committee approved the funding last
week in a 4-2 vote
Hill, who voted against the request last week,
said he didn't like the process under which the
monies were approved
The IFC unanimously approved a policy sta
tement saying the committee supports the goal of
keeping the EMU open extra hours and urged the
EMU Board to meet with the IFC to resolve the
funding issue.
The committee also approved $131 from the
surplus fund to pay for a Legal Services parking
spot. The IFC is contractually bound to pay for the
spot, said Sheila Schain, ASUO budget director.
