    The Nursing
Offers
Many Services
Your Health Center nursing staff Includes
registered nurse practitioners (RNP), regis
tered nurses, licensed practical nurses and
nurses aides.
Our RNP work from 8:00 to 4:30, Monday
through Friday and see students on an appoint
ment basis, as well as droo-ins 1f time 1s
available. One of the RNP's works full time
1n the Womens' Clinic of the Hlalth Center.
The RNP's see students for primary care which
Includes acute and chronic Illnesses, as well
as minor Injuries. Gynecological problems
Including all types of vaginal Infections,
pap smears, birth control counsell no. oreo
nancv counseling can also be taken care of by
RNPs. The RNPs are licensed to prescribe med
ications from an approved formulary. These
women work closely with the Health Center
physicians who help and advise.
The nurses work 1n all areas of the health
center. A RN at the front desk 1s responsible
for trlaglna, telephone counseling, and Sched
uling of appointments. Her knowledge, exper
ience, and expertlce play an Important role
1n assuring optimum care of the student.
RNs and LPNs and aides work 1n medical
areas assisting nhysldans and providing gen
eral nursing care. Medical charts are pro
cessed, preliminary tests such as blood pres
sure, certain lab tests are ordered, wound
care 1s done. Allergy skin testing, ear ir
rigations, electrocardiograms, and referrals
to outside nhysldans are done by nurses 1n the
areas. The nurses provide health Instruction
while caring for the student.
Area C Is often referred to as the "Nurses
Treatment" area. Here, nurses triage colds,
sore throats, coughs, fevers are screened,
treated 1f aporonrlate, and throat cultures
are done. Minor Illnesses are treated, or the
student may be given an appointment with a
physician 1f needed. All allergy Injections
are given 1n this area.
The urgent care clinic, where students may
be seen after the regular clinic 1s closed,
for Illnesses and Injuries of an acute nature,
1s staffed by a physician, nurse and aide.
The entire nursing staff are student advo
cates, and 1t 1s their policy, as 1t Is of all
who work at the Health Center, to serve the
student to the best of their ability.

Student Health Insurance 1s offered through
Lance C. Bloom, Metzker & Associates of
Euqene, 870 East 13th Avenue, Eugene, OR. If
you have any questions regarding this type of.

You do not have to have the student Insur
ance program, or any Insurance, to use the
services offered by the Health Center.
You've Decided
To See A
Doctor—Now What?
When you've reached the decision to con
sult with a doctor the first place to contact
1s the front desk of the Student Health Center.
Since the doctors see patients by appointment,
1t 1s best to call early 1n the day to sched
ule an appointment (686-4441). By explaining
your symptoms to the receptionist, she can be
sure to allow enouqh time for your specific
problem. A nurse 1s available at the front
desk to help answer medical questions.
Emergencies such as lacerations, immediate
Injuries, and severe Illness are always seen
as soon as possible. Appointments are made
for recurrlnq Illnesses. Infections, prescrip
tions, and those conditions requiring lab work
and/or x-rav. Reschedule your return visits
before leavlnq. Insurance forms are available
at the front desk to bill your charges to vour
Insurance company. If you need a copy of your
medical records transferred to another doctor
be sure to allow enouoh time.
Since the Student Health Center 1s only able
to see currently registered students, be sure
to bring your ID and fee card to verify your
registration.
And finally - 1f you're unable to keep your
appointment please call and let the front desk
know so that someone else can have your appoint
ment time.
