adviser in the University inter
national services office the
foundation "promotes interna
tional understanding and world
friendship by encouraging in
tercultural activities "
Friendship families are ex
pected to provide a foreign
student with opportunities to
gain an understanding of Amer
ican culture
Litchman suggests helping
orient students when they first
arrive, inviting them to dinner,
accommodating them as guests
in their homes, taking them on
excursions to points of interest
in the state and helping them
adjust to life in Eugene
Close to 200 students from
75 countries are coming in for
