Ducks lose unhappy Hill
From Emoratd and Aaaoclatad Prasa report*
Dana Hill, the Oregon quarterback of the
future, has become a quarterback of the past
On Tuesday, Oregon coach Rich Brooks
announced that Hill had missed Monday's
practice and moved out of his dormitory room
Hill, who was suspended for last weekend’s
game at Washington after missing a team meet
ing, had expressed displeasure in the past week
with his situation at Oregon
According to offensive coordinator Erik
Widmark, Hill said last week that he was uncom
fortable with the overall Oregon program
“He was uncomfortable with the school, the
program, the community,'1 Widmark said "He was
just uncomfortable with the whole situation "
"For his own reasons, he felt Oregon was not
the place for him to be," said Brooks
"It's extremely difficult for any freshman to be
thrust to the forefront in major college football I'm
sure the pressure of playing and the start of
classes and the required attendance at those
functions can be very difficult for a young man.
"We have talked with his mother (in Pomona,
Calif.) and to his high school coach and the
assumption is that he is somewhere between here
and Los Angeles," Brooks said
Hill can still rejoin the team if he wants to,
Brooks said
Widmark said that the disappearance of Hill
came as "a little bit of a surprise," but not a big
shock. Widmark said he doesn't think the
freshman's decision to leave was a direct result of
the suspension. "It was just the overall program,"
Hill's statistics were not overly impressive,

provide the leadership the Ducks needed
The treshman's departure adds more intrigue
to the soap opera story of Oregon quarterbacks
this season Oregon has had three different
starting quarterbacks in four games and Hill was
the only two-time starter.
Widmark would not speculate on who might
start game number five, next Saturday in Los
Angeles against USC. "I don't think anything is
safe to say at this point," he said
