Food fare at fairly easy prices

What is more unlikely than
two students eating their fill?
How about two students eating
their fill for $5?
In these times of a depressed
economy and rising tuition $5
will buy less and less, if you can
scrape it together at all. And
unless you are familiar with
Eugene s eating scene you may
be stuck dishing out $10 for a
meal Fido would turn tail on
Cheap and hearty meals are
out there to be eaten The chore
is to find them
The Peking Mandarin res
taurant at 13th Ave. and Hilyard
St in Eugene offers a $1 95
lunch special Each weekday
provides a different look at
authentic Chinese cuisine
Monday's lunch menu, for in
stance, is fried wonton served
with pork chow mein Other
days an egg roll or sweet and
sour pork may be served with
pork fried rice or chow mein.
Included in the meal is coffee or
tea and a fortune cookie
For a little American fare
jeb's. 1350 Alder St., is the
place to be Each Wednesday
Jeb's offers a free small order of
their "famous" fries with any $2

breakfast at Aunt Lucy Devine's.

The Eugene Council for
Human Rights will serve lunch
daily from 11:30 a m to 2:30
p.m in the Wesley Foundation
building at 1236 Kincaid St
beginning early in October. The
meals will be prepared by an El
Salvadorean cook and will re
flect various Latin American
cultures The lunch will be a
complete meal served in the
spirit of having a good time
while helping the people of El
Salvador Proceeds from the
lunch on Wednesday will be
sent directly to the refugee
camps in Honduras for those
fleeing the civil war in El Sal
vador The proceeds from the
other lunches will be used by
the Eugene Council to support
itself The food will be donated
to the Council and those who
eat may help in the preparing or
cleaning up. Costs have not yet
been set but will be approxima
tely $1.50
The Newman Center, 1850
Emerald St. will once again hold
their "Sunday Soup Supper "
Homemade soup and bread will
be served for $1. A time
schedule has not yet been set
for the meal and those interest
ed are encouraged to call ext
4468 for further information.
The supper is open to all and
one need not be a member of
the Newman Center to attend
Two fish and chips fans can
eat their fill for the price of one
Wednesday from 5 to 10 p m at
the Trawler, 110 S Park St The
price is $4 95 and includes an
entree, french fries, vegetable,
homemade bread and salad or
chowder
Pizan's. 1225 Alder St offers
what they think is a tasty meat
loaf sandwich made of entirely
fresh and homemade in
gredients. The sandwich runs
for $1.50 as does a large bowl of
homemade soup or chili. For
those with a little bit more cash
Pizan’s also offers a $2.95 daily
special Typically, lasagne with
garlic bread and salad will be
featured "just like Mom used to
fix it.”
The Kona Cafe's Wednesday
"Beggars Banquet” also costs a
bit more but may be worth it for
people who enjoy "all you can
eat" offers. You can get, for
$3.50, all the tacos and refried
beans and rice you can stand
Night people may enjoy a
midnight omelette snack at
Lenny s Nosh Bar in the Court
yard , 699 E. 13th Ave A fou r egg
omelette with a choice of
fillings is only $2.25. Lenny
serves the special from 10:30
p m until 3 in the morning
The Williams Food Company,
