Branches of the library

A hike in the Cascades, a new apartment to
decorate, or just a desire to learn about a new
found strain of virus are all reason enough to visit
one of the many branch libraries of the University
Most of the library material is of course locat
ed in the main library, 273,000 volumes and other
materials are housed in five branch libraries
located in various schools around the campus
Branch libraries such as the Architecture and
Allied Arts Library, the Science Library, and the
Mathematics Library carry the more specialized
material in those fields. The collections are dir
ected towards students majoring in those fields of
study.
Map Library • Condon Hall
Air photos and United States Geological
Survey maps of the Cascades are among the
materials available in the Map Library housed in
Condon Hall
Students and the members of the community
come in for a variety of reasons related to finding
the aerial distribution of something, according to
Susan Trevitt-Clark, Map Library administrative
assistant.
Fishing, hunting, hiking, and overseas trips
may be researched here, and even geneologists
and small businesses use the facilities
Most of the 250,000 maps in the library can be
checked out for two weeks
The library's collection of 300,000 air photos
and 2,300 atlases, which are not loaned, make this
map library the largest in Oregon as well as the
nation
Still more of these materials are available
through the inter-library loan system The Map
Library is a member of the system.
Areas of strength for the library include
Oregon, Central America, Eastern Europe, Africa
and Japan, according to Trevitt-Clark.
This “fairly well-rounded'' collection has
been developed inspite of a seemingly insufficient
