Carnival Theatre
starts season with
‘Angel’ Wednesday
A Pulitizer Prize-winning American classic will
open the 1982 Carnival Theatre season on Wednesday
at the University.
“Look Homeward, Angel,” by Ketti Frings, will also
run July 8-10,17, 23, and Aug. 4 and 12 at the Robinson
Theatre in Villard Hall. Curtain time is 8 p.m
The comedy-drama, which also won the New York
Drama Critics’ award, is based on the early years of
American novelist Thomas Wolfe. The story focuses on
Eugene Gant (James Conant) and his relationship with
his family, particularly his dominant mother Eliza (Phyl
lis Julian) and his older brother Ben (Dana Black). In
Wolfe's novel, the Gant family is really his own.
"Since its New York opening in 1957, ‘Look
Homeward, Angel’ has maintained its popularity and
has become an authentic classic of the American stage
with its skillful blending of humor, warmth and heart
break,” says director Faber DeChaine.
Reserved-seat tickets are $5 for Fridays and Sa
turdays, $3.50 for Wednesdays and Thursdays. Season
tickets — three plays for $9 or $12 for weekday and
weekend performances — are still available.
For reservations and more information, phone the
Carnival Theatre box office at 686-4191 noon to 4 p.m.
Monday through Saturday.
