The following items were gleaned from college, national, and
other publications.
Skullduggery
Two University of Pittsburgh students withdrew from that
university after a judicial committee investigated charges that
“skulls" allegedly kicked onto a rugby field by students were
actually human heads. The objects, described by the committee as
“anatomical material" had been stolen from a university dental
laboratory.
The heads were said to have been kicked onto the rugby field
before a match between the Pittsburgh team and a team from
Juniata College. The students intention was to upset the Juniata
College players.

Prof hiding
A professor of history at UCLA is on the lam Stanford Shaw,
an expert in the history of the Ottoman Empire is said to be in hiding
and his classes have been canceled. Shaw became the target of
protests by Armenian activists who resented his "insensitivity" to
the suffering of the Armenians during the breakup of the Ottoman
Empire.

Hiding cocaine
Three admissions office employees at George Washington
University, Washington, D.C., resigned following the discovery that
they were storing cocaine in their Rice Hall offices.
An undisclosed amount of cocaine was found by University
security officers in desk drawers of the employees. The cocaine
storage was suspected by fellow officeworkers who reported their
suspicions to University security.

A chapter of the Theta Chi fraternity at Michigan State
University awaits findings of an investigation ordered by the group s
national president after Theta Chi included a "wide-eyed black
statue" in a group photograph used in an advertisement
The Greeks were placed on "investigatory probation” in
response to a protest by University President Cecil Mackey

Under the headline "Ethnic units joined," the Dally Ever
green reports two potentially controversial issues — the state of
financial emergency and the merging of four ethnic studies
programs into one department — were passed by the Washington
state Board of Regents
